Our New Family Addition: Ella Blue

We’ve added a new addition to our family! Yes, it’s a…PUPPY!

Both my husband and I have wanted a puppy for awhile. When we first talked about getting a dog we planned to get a puppy, but Beau (our big dog) sort of fell into our laps and we couldn’t say no to his sweet gentle spirit. He was a year or so (we don’t really know) when we got him and already full grown. Once we got past all his stomach issues (he was a malnourished rescue) he has been the EASIEST dog. If we are up at 4:30am he’s up! If we sleep in super late, he sleeps in super late. We just don’t have to worry about him.

Matt had especially been wanting a pit bull since they get such a bad rap. I wasn’t so sure but Matt convinced me that they’re good dogs and I knew if we got a pit bull, I wanted a blue girl (the gray color).

Well, we found her.

I started secretly looking on sites for puppies, contemplating on whether I should try to surprise Matt for Christmas and if we were REALLY ready for a puppy. You see, we hadn’t really discussed timing on a puppy but more that we wanted a puppy at some point. Now that Beau is perfectly trained we really thought about whether we just wanted a cute furry face or if we were ready to clean up poop every day. Not that anyone is really ever ready for that. We decided together that this was a good time for us. I found a litter of about 7 pits and 4 of them were blue. BUT I still wanted to surprise Matt, SO I told him that all the blue pups were already sold.

He believed me…And started looking for more dogs!

I’m pretty good at pulling off surprises. I’ve managed to tell quite a few white lies in my day for the sake of a surprise. For a bit I was afraid I’d have to tell Matt what I was planning so he wouldn’t go out and buy a different pup. Instead I just convinced him that maybe all the pups being sold is a sign that we should wait til the summer to get a puppy. He bought it.

I had everything set up to get the puppy. I went on Amazon that night and got prime shipping on puppy pads, a crate, and a playpen. We’re talking 3 and half days before Christmas! I then got everything else I needed at Target and Dollar Tree: food bowls, food, toys, and a collar. My brother, Owen, was coming home for Christmas and planned to go with me to get the puppy on Christmas Eve. Matt thought we were planning to do last minute shopping…which was partly true.

After our shopping trip that morning we went by to get our sweet little pup. Oh my goodness did I want ALL the puppies! We picked Ella Blue out and I found out later she was the exact pup I saw online and wanted. When Owen and I got home we left her in a box in the car for a bit and unpacked everything else. We played it off casually and just hung around inside for a few minutes so Matt didn’t suspect anything.

After about 15 mins I went back to the car and brought in a “fun hat I found.” Owen was recording as I walked around the corner into our living room where Matt was sitting with our sweet Ella Blue in a santa hat. He grew silent when he saw her and just started grinning from ear to ear. He had no idea! Matt isn’t one to jump up and down with excitement but you knew he was ecstatic.

Matt and I had discussed names before I told him the white lie about all the pups being sold. We both liked “Blue” but felt it needed something else. So we ended up with Ella Blue aka: Blue, Little Blue, Ella, Little Bit, baby, and little girl. She is 9 weeks old today and already getting bigger! I want it to stop! If she was perfectly potty trained though, that’d be ok… 🙂

I feel like a mom now. She’s almost just like an infant. Ella Blue follows me around and sits at my feet when she wants me to carry her. She gives us kisses every morning and runs to me when I get home in the evening. She cuddles with us every night and much rather sleep on top of me than in her bed. She plays really well with Beau and he seems to really like her too. Sometimes he gets a little rough for her size so she comes and sits by me for a break or runs to his bed as “base.” It’s pretty cute. She’s starting to learn her name although we don’t make it easy with all her nicknames. We just love having her around and are currently contemplating ways to stunt her growth.

If you’re a dog lover you’ll want to keep scrolling. She’s pretty cute! 🙂 Also follow me on snapchat or instagram for videos! *warning: I’ve been known to post too many 😉 Like I can help it!*

These photo are from a day or two after we got her.
